Used (part cake) powder bin
The Used bin in the left rear corner of the IRS
receives used powder (part cake) from the BOS
and stores it for blending. After the initial fill, the
IRS keeps the Used bin full (based on powder
weight and level) while used powder from the
BOS is available.
L
A load cell under the bin and a material sensor
at the top of the bin read the powder weight
and level. Do not place objects on top of the
bin. This will make the IRS read the powder
weight greater than it is.
Used powder automatically flows from the BOS
to the IRS until the Used bin is full if the BOS is...
✓
powered up,
✓

RECYCLE
mode, and
✓
has used part cake powder available to send.
If the BOS has no used
powder to send,
eventually, the Used
bin will get too low to
blend a
full batch
.
When this happens,
the IRS blends a
partial
batch
.
Virgin powder storage bin
The Virgin bin in the right rear corner of the IRS
receives virgin powder from the IPC and stores it
for blending. The IRS loads virgin powder from
the IPC until the Virgin bin is “full”; i.e., until the
bin weight and powder level are both above the
factory “full” setpoint; typically.
L
A load cell under the bin and a material sensor
at the top of the bin read the powder weight
and level. Do not place objects on top of the
bin. This will make the
IRS
read the powder
weight greater than it is.
When the powder weight in the Virgin bin falls
below the preset “empty” setpoint, the IRS
automatically unloads virgin powder from the IPC
until the Virgin bin is full.
Before the IRS can unload powder into the Virgin
bin, an IPC must be...
✓
connected to the IRS umbilical,
✓
at the proper pressure,
✓
sending a valid RFID reading to the IRS, and
✓
have powder to send (not empty).
