Replacing a Disk in
a Two-Server
Configuration
Use this procedure to replace a disk in a two-server configuration.
A service person arrives with a laptop that is used to connect to the serial
port on the down server. The laptop functions as the console terminal
because VCX servers have no keyboard or monitor.
The service person isolates the down server from the network to avoid
the possibility of telephones trying to access it before it is ready.
The service person replaces the disk drive and reboots the system.
1
The following prompt appears:
Configure Networking now?
2
Enter
yes
and then answer the questions to configure the network and
other parameters for the down server. For detailed instructions, see
“Sample Network and Initial Configuration Script (Primary Server)”
“Sample Network and Initial Configuration Script (Secondary Server)”
.
3
Answer the questions that are posed by the UMS installation scripts to
configure the various components. For detailed instructions, see
UMS Installation Script (Primary Server)”
or
.
4
Install on the down server the same software version as is running on the
running server.
5
At the end of the installation process, use this command to switch to the
new software version. For 5_0_X_Y, substitute the appropriate software
version number.
vcx-switchversion 5_0_X_Y
The service person and the customer determine the best time to take the
running server offline in order to synchronize the two servers. The
customer should plan for a VCX system outage of at least 30 minutes.
During the outage, all gateways are offline and callers hear a busy tone.
At a planned time, the running server is taken offline (all processes
associated with processing phone calls are shut down).
1
On the down server, log in as
root
.
2
Enter these commands:
cd /etc/rc.d/rc6.d
./K01vcx stop
