Default Route
Metric
An OSPF router always forwards an IP packet to the network that is the
best match
for the packet’s destination;
best match
means the longest or
most specific match. A router that fails to find a specific match for a
packet’s destination forwards the packet to the default router in the area.
To configure an OSPF router to advertise itself as the default router for an
area, you define a default route metric. By default, the default route
metric is not defined, which means that the router does not advertise
itself as the area’s default router.
When you remove the default route metric, the router no longer
advertises itself as the default router.
