Wireless LAN Managed

Access Point AP2750

• 3Com’s “fit” Managed Access

Points keep encryption local to
protect network transmissions

• Centralized controls distribute

configurations simply and
securely to MAPs, enabling
savings on management and
operational expenses

• More than a simple access point,

MAPs gather intelligence about
the WLAN through RF scanning
and monitoring

Wireless LAN Managed Access

Point (MAP) AP2750 augments mobile
security and provides wireless LAN
connectivity for WLAN users. An integral
component of 3Com’s Wireless LAN
Mobility System, the 3Com AP2750
encrypts transmissions to protect data
privacy and responds to commands from
the Wireless LAN Switch WX1200 or the
Wireless LAN Controller WX4400. Because
the AP2750 is fully controlled by a
Wireless LAN Switch or Controller, it
contains no local data-store for sensitive
data, eliminating the vulnerability of user
or network information being compro-
mised due to hacking or theft. The result is
a highly secure access point that reduces
capital expenses and responds to manage-
ment commands to reduce ongoing
administration costs – all while keeping
the wireless LAN secure.

Simplifies Configuration, Control, and
Optimization of MAPs

The arduous process of configuring and
deploying even a few access points is
vastly simplified using 3Com’s AP2750.
The AP2750 utilizes standards-based
integration with the Wireless LAN Switch
WX1200 and Controller WX4400 for
simple plug-and-play installation. There
is no need to pre-configure MAPs, and if
one needs replacing, it automatically
inherits its configuration from the switch
or controller—making it comparable to
changing a light bulb. The configuration
details for all MAPs are centrally distrib-
uted for consistency and accuracy
resulting in simplified initial deployments
as well as easier long-term management.

Automated network controls at the wireless
switch improve MAP coverage and service
by optimizing RF gain, assigning radio
channels, load balancing and even
sweeping the RF environment as required,
either continuously, on-demand, or based
on your schedule.

Provides Security and Seamless Mobility

MAPs provide local traffic encryption
which distributes encryption processing
across the network rather than relying on
one central device. Continuous, on-demand,
or scheduled RF scans can be used not
only to locate users but also to identify
and isolate potentially harmful rogue
access points (APs) or other infiltrators.
3Com wireless switches and controllers
integrate with backend authorization/
authentication/accounting (AAA) servers,
consistently enforcing user and group
access policies across the wireless LAN,
providing secure session integrity as users
roam throughout the network—no reasso-
ciation or IT intervention required.

Eases Network Integration through
Flexible Deployments

Allowing network wiring flexibility, the
AP2750 can be linked directly or indirectly
to a 3Com Wireless LAN Switch or
Controller through existing wired
networks, even across Layer 3 boundaries.
Additionally, the AP2750 can receive its
power via standard PoE (Power over
Ethernet) either directly from a Wireless
LAN Switch WX1200 or from any 802.11af
compliant PoE device.
