On-Board Memory
Bitbox has 64MB of on-board RAM. However, this is a cache--not a hard limit to what
can be loaded at once.
Maximum Sample Length
Bitbox streams the longer samples from the microSD card, so the maximum length is a
function of the maximum file size for a sample. The maximum file size is 4GB, which
can be many hours depending on the sample rate and bit depth. Bitbox caches smaller
samples as needed.
Samples Supported
Bitbox supports stereo samples. It can record in stereo and has stereo outputs.
Bitbox supports samples in the WAV file format. It supports 1 or 2 channel files with 16,
24 or 32-bit resolution at any sample rate. 48kHz is the preferred sample rate. The
bitbox engine uses a 24-bit ADC and DAC.
WAV file names may use Alpha Numeric Characters (A-Z, 0-9) and some special
characters. The following characters are NOT allowed: double quotes, forward slash,
back slash, question mark, asterisk, less than and greater than symbols, the colon and
the pipe symbol (“ / \ ? * < > :
|). File names must be less than 256 characters,
including the path name. Files that do not conform to these naming constraints will not
be recognized by bitbox.
Maximum Number of Voices Supported
Bitbox can support playback of up to 16 total voices
across all pads at one time. Additionally, there is a
per pad limit based on the pad mode. The limit for
each pad mode is identified in the table on the right.
Nothing in bitbox will prevent you from trying to play
8 voices on all 16 pads at the same time. However,
the CPU can be overloaded if you play too many
notes at once. You can reliably play 16 voices
across all pads simultaneously. Beyond that, you
may encounter some sound quality issues like
crackling. The exact breaking point depends on the
overall usage scenario.
